I grew up in a farmhouse surrounded by sugar cane fields outside of a little city called New Roads, in south Louisiana.

My mom homeschooled me for twelve years, and by doing so, she dedicated her life to recognizing and cultivating all the things that made me glow. She pushed me to weave my love of art and storytelling into everything else in my life, be it math and english studies, old and new friends, theater performances, and experimental revivals of historical fashions (for those trips to Winn-Dixie, of course). The world, rural and charming as it was to me, let my mind go wild, and in turn, so did my fingers on any canvas or paper I found.

In 2019, I graduated from Northwestern State University with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Studio Art. And yet, that feels like just the beginning for me, really! There was still so much more to learn!

Before I began illustrating books, I spent three years as a full-time display artist for Anthropologie. It was my hands-on, sawdust-in-hair, paper-mâché approach to furthering my education — a place where I learned to build artistic and immersive experiences from nothing but fabric dye, paint, chipboard, and a whole lot of whimsy.

Nowadays, I bring that same sense of wonder and fantasy to my children’s books: unique characters in all sorts of art styles, brave mixes of color and design, and expressive details that feel a bit chaotic, wonderful, and tangible.

When I’m not sketching on my iPad, curled up on sofa with my poodle Dixie, you’ll find me biking, antiquing, painting on big canvases, or cooking in my kitchen with too much butter and cayenne pepper.

My best friend is my husband Daulton, who I love with my whole heart, my forever muse. Together, we love to garden, and I draw constant inspiration from the outdoors and plants. I’m based in Birmingham, Alabama, a city I’m proud to call is my home.
